Everything to Know About Cryptocurrency

Cryptocurrency is rapidly gaining popularity this year. It is a form of digital currency that can be exchanged between shareholders, with no fee. It’s like a mix between the stock market and your wallet. Read on to see why millennials rave about it.

Cryptocurrency: All The Coins

The official definition is “a digital currency in which transactions are verified and records maintained by a decentralized system using cryptography, rather than by a centralized authority.” At first, the digital currency exchange system was born from the dark web. It was used for illegal purchases and trading up until around 2013. Bitcoin allowed for crypto to become legal/legit. Legit crypto came around in the early 2010’s, but didn’t gain popularity until the 2017 Bitcoin craze. Then, the trend died down until 2020, when the pandemic pushed people to re-evaluate their finances. Dogecoin also found its way into memes and Internet circulation. So, with Dogecoin and Bitcoin becoming more popular, by 2021 almost everyone knows about digital currency.

Today, the digital currency system is making its way into everyday life. To buy or sell cryptocurrency, users will download a broker app, such as Robinhood or Coinwallet. So, you don’t have to go through a person to trade crypto. Then, you buy/sell as you would with stocks. One difference is that the crypto market doesn’t have an open/close time. You can buy Dogecoin at 2 AM if you want. Because of this, cryptocurrency tends to be more turbulent. Each coin is worth as much as people hype it up to be. More importantly, all crypto coins follow Bitcoin’s pattern.

As Wall Street moguls and legendary investors battle with novice crypto investors, cryptocurrency is still finding its place in society. Now, crypto holders are waiting to see if they can legally purchase items with Bitcoins and Dogecoin. Elon Musk, self-proclaimed ‘Dogefather’, reported that he is making way for people to buy Teslas with Dogecoin. It looks like cryptocurrency will slowly but surely make its way into investors’ portfolios, and everyday citizens’ lives.

Do you have any crypto investments? Are you happy with it, or was it an L? Let us know!

Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3 (1)

Samsung Brings Back the Flip Phone

If you had a flip phone back in the early-mid 2000s, you probably miss the satisfaction of snapping your phone shut. Thankfully, now in 2021, you can buy a smart flip phone- say what? So far, two things from the early 2000s have come back around: Limp Bizkit and flip phones. Samsung is about to release their Galaxy Z Flip 3 phone- read on to see how rad it is.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 Phone

As of now, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is available for pre-order, with the official launch set for Friday, August 27th. However, we’ve been able to snag reviews about it already. Cnet reports that now, the mid-section (the phone flips hamburger-style) feels smoother. Meaning, you can’t feel the bumps and hinges like you would on phones before. Also, it is still waterproof, just as all the other Samsungs. Also, the flip feature makes it easy to take photos. If you’re interested in photo quality, check out these photos from Cnet. One cool little feature is the little display window when you close the phone to check the time and notifications at a glance. Don’t worry about it breaking on you- it’s made with high-grade aluminum and Gorilla Glass to protect your screen. Lengthwise, it is 6.5″ when opened, 3.4″ folded.   This impressive, futuristic smart flip phone starts at $1,000. Considering that Samsung drastically improved the folding design (and even made it happen in the first place), it’s worth the price!

There’s also the Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s bigger (like an Ultra version) and folds hot-dog style. It’s the Galaxy Note series child, so it has an S-pen holder and other similar features to the Note.

We will keep following reviews and keep y’all up to date. If you have the new Samsung flip phone, let us know what you think of it. Hey, bonus points if you bling out your flip phone for the ultimate mid-2000s vibe!

Also, check out Samsung’s latest smartwatch, and follow our blog for updates! Thanks for reading!

Apple and the Global Chip Shortage

Apple announced that manufacturing their products is a little bit more challenging this year. This is due to the global chip shortage that is affecting Apple, car companies, and PlayStation. Read on to see how this will affect Apple’s iPhone/iPad releases that normally debut in the fall season.

Apple and the Chip Shortage

At the beginning of this year, Apple was able to order the number of chips needed for their devices. However, fulfilling that order could not be complete. Thankfully, they are better off than other manufacturing companies. In fact, the smartphone-making giant just reported that their Q3 earnings are the highest ever yet. So, those earnings are going to have to tide them over until A15 chip production is back in full swing. According to Forbes, chief financial officer Luca Maestri says that iPhones and iPad will be hit the hardest. They are re-designing the iPad mini, but now it’s put temporarily on hold. Here’s what Maestri has to say: “We expect supply constraints during the September quarter to be greater than what we experienced during the June quarter. The constraints will primarily impact iPhone and iPad.” The A15 chip is the most important feature for the re-designed iPad, the iPhone 13, and MacBook. Now, it looks like Apple will not be able to release the iPhone 13 in September, and this may affect supply for next year as well.

Other Apple products sales are soaring, though. Especially Apple Watches, which are really picking up since their initial debut in April 2015. So, customers shouldn’t have a problem obtaining AirPods, Watches, and Apple TV, which use an M1 chip processor. Hang on to your current Apple products for now, or go to the 2020 products. We will keep a close watch on Apple’s production and supply, as well as the chip shortage, and keep you informed.

How are you affected by the chip shortage? Let us know in the comments!

So, iPhone or Android? It will always be up to preference, so we’ll leave the statistics up to you. The iPhone 12 currently has a 4.5 rating on Google. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S21 also rates 4.5. It is important to note that Samsung put more effort into the Ultra, which rates 4.7. However, the Ultra is at $1,200. If you’re interested, you can read all about it here.  Likewise, Apple has a luxury version, the iPhone 12 Pro, which rates at 4.6. The pro version contains enhanced camera features and sturdier material. As far as the standard version, it has 5G support and Apple’s new A14 chip. They renewed the design and made the phone a little sturdier. Meanwhile, Samsung’s S21 also contains 5G support and a new design. Samsung drastically improved the camera quality. The S21 has Gorilla Glass covering the phone.

Our verdict? If you can wait for a new phone, wait until later for a new release. With huge changes to both Apple and Samsung’s design, it is best to wait until they work out kinks and improve bugs. Nevertheless, it is important to get a 5G-compatible smartphone soon. Why not try switching it up and see what surprises you?

These big phones/small computers are convenient to have. It’s perfect for traveling and if you like to utilize all areas of the house. While iPads were the best tablets to have and are still trusty, the Samsung Tab S6 isn’t too bad, either. Especially with the S pen, which will help your stylus pen stay with your device. If all of your devices are Apple, then stick with the iPad. They’re always reliable and easy to use. Otherwise, see how Samsung has advanced on their tablet game. Both have the options for LTE/5G support.

Other Devices

Aside from a new phone or a new tablet, smartwatches and FitBits are still in. Apple’s Watch Series 6 is noted for its blood oxygen sensor. Samsung also has smartwatches, and they can connect to Apple products. Otherwise, the Fitbit Sense is the best smartwatch. It has a long battery life, a GPS, and compatible with both Apple and Samsung.

How To Properly Clean Your Electronic Devices

It’s important to keep your electronic devices clean on a regular basis. Dirt, bacteria, and dust collect on the surface and in the device. Dirty surfaces can cause acne or illness. Interior dirt build-up can lead to technical problems. So, here’s how to actually clean your phone and other devices.

Sadly, wiping your shirt or sleeve on everything does not do the trick. But, you do have to be careful to not scratch surfaces or avoid putting harsh chemicals on your $1K device. Depending on how dirty your device is, get rid of excess dirt with a dry microfiber cloth first. Also, use soft items for wiping, and apply the solution to the cleaner first not the device. Anything stiff will scratch the screen.

Phones should be cleaned the most often. Every other day would be ideal, but once a week is okay. Use either 50-70% isopropyl alcohol to dampen a cotton ball or microfiber and go over the front and back. Since tablets are basically just bigger smartphones, this same method can apply. Take off your case and clean both case and device thoroughly.

Laptops can get surprisingly dirty. The culprit? Debris in the keyboard. Back in the day, I had a laptop where the fan stopped working due to dirt build-up. So it’s important to clean the inside and outside out thoroughly. For the exterior: Mix dish soap and water and dip into microfiber cloth, wringing out excess fluid. Wipe down entire surface. Wipe again with dry cloth. For the interior: check out these Wiki Steps or check out this YouTube tutorial.

We recommend using Clorox wipes for devices shared by the household: remote controls, microwave, door knobs, gaming controllers, ect. Pandemic or not, items that see several hands throughout the day should be sanitized. Also, make sure your device doesn’t get moisture damage. How often you clean electronic devices is up to you, but please wipe down that phone before you put it up to your face again!

First, we’ll look at the S&P 500 Index. Statista says,

“Between March 4 and March 11, 2020, the S&P 500 index dropped by twelve percent, descending into a bear market. On March 12, the S&P 500 plunged 9.5 percent, its steepest one-day fall since 1987. The index began to recover at the start of April.”

As of April 14, the value was $2,850 per share, just a few hundred dollars below their pre-COVID era. Then, their value rose above $3,000 per share at the end of May. Since then, it’s gradually been rising. Now, as of December 15, the value is at $3,666 per share.

  • Amazon (AMZN). Due to stay-at-home orders, Amazon revenue and stocks gained profit. CEO & Founder Jeff Bezos is now the richest man on the Forbes list! Each share is valued at $3,157.
  • JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM). America’s largest bank and 7th largest bank in the world. They faired okay during the pandemic. However, they did see a drop after making changes to their borrower policy. Their value is now worth $120 per share.
  • Visa (V). Overall, banks survived the pandemic thanks to the Federal Bank Act. Visa saw more success in 2020. Today’s value is at $209 per share.
  • Tesla (TSLA). Elon Musk’s engineering and company management skills are earning him big bucks. He also soared up on the Forbes list and is now at #7. But, his stock value does fluctuate according to what he tweets. Tesla is worth $639 per share.
  • Brookfield Property Reit Inc (BPYU). Despite worries that the housing market would tank due to evictions, business is good. BPYU is at $15.90 per share.

2020 Stocks

While the stock market tanked in March, overall it has been steadily returning back to its normal rate. However, the presidential race is an important factor now. Now that Joe Biden is confirmed for inauguration while son Hunter Biden is under legal fire, we will have to closely watch the stock market. Also, another factor affecting stocks is Bitcoin. It has recently seen a drastic increase in December. One Bitcoin is now worth 19,531.20 US dollars. Also, technology development and releases are contributing to the rising stocks. While Apple stagnated a little this year, they are expected to stay as the leading smartphone company.

Tablets are ideal for playing games, browsing Facebook, and watching movies/TV shows on the go. I’d recommend the iPad if your friends and family all have one, due to easy sharing and connecting. It also has a simple, easy-to-use design. But, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S7 is better for more hands-on tasks, thanks to the S (stylus) pen. The newest iPads came out earlier this year, and people seem to like the 4th generation iPad Air.

Game Time

The heavily-discussed PlayStation 5, coming out Nov. 12, is set to sweep the gaming nation. The all-new design for both the console and the controller is will offer a refreshing gaming experience. The previous generation, PS4, was released 4 years ago, so it was time to match up with today’s technology.

Or, get the Nintendo Switch. Although it came out almost a year ago, it’s still all the rage and heavily used. With two-part controllers attached on each side, the user can easily switch from single player to multi-player.

The best laptop depends on what it’s needed for. For gamers, PC Mag recommends the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14. If the work-from-home laptop needs an upgrade, then try out the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14. Or, you can pick up the newest MacBook Pro and check out the magic keyboard.

What is UI/UX Design, and Why Is It Important?

What is UI/UX design, and what’s the difference in between them? It can be easy to use the terms interchangeably. While they are closely related, they mean two different things. User interface design (UI) is a graphic design term for the front and back end development. Specifically, what their users expect out of their devices and simplifying use. You can find user interface in machines from smartphones to refrigerators. Therefore, UI falls underneath the UX umbrella term. UX refers to user experience. This is what consumers gain out of their product thanks to UI software design. Here’s how UI and UX work together, but could stand alone.

Understanding UX

UX is a general term regarding user’s experience with the product. It can refer to any category of product, not just technology. It can apply to hardware/physical design as well. Let’s use a car for example. Do customers like the size, the look, and find it smooth? Does it function desirably? Could you see yourself using this every day? How does the car make you feel? Whether you are satisfied with the product or not is essentially user experience.

Understanding UI Design

User Interface design is the inner works that makes a product function. Since UX refers to overall design, that means that UI is a part of UX. UI is what gives the product its unique brand look. Also, UI is for electronics only: computers, toasters, and such. UI is concerned with software design and layout, like buttons. The main goal is to simplify design for easiest  Matters such as security, battery life, and speed all have to do with UI. Website designers, engineers, and technology developers heavily rely on UI design for their daily work. UI design evolves as technology improves.

UI/UX design is crucial for modern technology. We rely on our smartphones and computers to have the best user interface design so we can get the best user experience out of it. Since UI is strictly electronics, UX design could exist without UI. There’s a relatively high demand for UI/UX designers as technology continues to develop and evolve. Click here to read about what a computer whizz has to say about UI and UX design.
